My second take on this assignment on Change. =)
if in the previous series i portrayed the idea of how the old is sometimes forgotten in our daily rush, in this series, i perceive Change as something subtle.
in today’s day and age, people tend to embark on a busy and rushed lifestyle. how often do we actually stop by to take things in our own stride and just take a break? for myself, being a student does comes with certain privileges. especially in uni, we are allowed to plan our own timetable and so after school hours, we are free to do (almost) anything we want. we can also choose not to be bogged down by school and take part in leisurely activities. but how about those whose lives are led by the pressure of time? do they, if ever, take a moment to breathe in and just chill?
for that, this series shows how both man and even machines, need to take a break and that sometimes, we just need to stop and smell the roses for life isn’t all about chasing deadlines and work. maybe all we need to do is have some change in our busy schedules, to make time for those around us and probably for ourselves as well. =)
hence, presenting to you, Change II.
even new batteries die out when you least expect it.
for machines do burn out too.
as we take each stride, which path do we normally take?
so many places to go, so little time.
I wonder if I’ll ever live to see this place in all its glory
and be able to capture life’s most precious moments as they unfold
for each new day brings along a new catch, no matter how long it takes.
maybe it’s good to stop once in a while, to take in the scenery around us, before moving off again. =)
self-assessment:
for this series, I feel that my pictures have improved in terms of exposure and setting as compared to the previous one. I’ve managed to deal further using the Manual mode, though i know there is still room for improvements. =)
still using Paul’s work as the benchmark, i’ll rate myself a 9/10 for the clearer and more focused theme on Change that i’ve presented.

EVALUATION
with reference to the series of photographs that i presented for this assignment, i was trying to convey these main points:
i) that as people bask in festivities, people tend to forget the very old;
ii) new construction that paves the way for new buildings are a sign that the value of the rich heritage is diminishing
based on the feedback received, i think i could’ve done more to address the theme of change using my point of view. However, I am also in the process of devoloping another series so that will also be out soon. =)
and as for self-assessment, based on this series, im giving myself 7.5/10 for the effort that I put in (addressing culture is something not easy!). =)
for now, i believe these are the main areas to take note of while keeping the theme in mind:
i) that change doesn’t have to be something culture or people-related
ii) what’s more important is that your message of change comes across as clear to most people
iii) maybe keeping certain things in focus, rather than taking the whole big picture
i really like this theme a lot coz i see a couple of interesting ones during tutorial. One that caught my attention was Paul’s, whom i thought captured people’s expression really well. and his selective framing was good too — i’d never thought of that! =) therefore, i feel he deserves the full 10/10.
The week’s assignment was on change. Pretty broad topic and there are many POVs that we could take on.
While change is inevitable, some things DO remain constant as well. And so with this assignment, i seek to capture images that reflect on today’s society — how we are so obsessed with chasing the new that we forget the very old.
